Ready to Connect

San Diego is one of the most beautiful and diverse regions in the country. It is shaped by ocean and desert, cross-border culture, military service, innovation, arts, and strong neighborhood identity.

It is also a binational region shaped by constant movement. Students arrive and graduate. Military families rotate in and out. People relocate and cross the border for housing, work, caregiving, recovery, and opportunity. Even longtime residents often move repeatedly within the county.

This movement makes San Diego dynamic and diverse. And it can make belonging harder to sustain.

From Friendliness to Belonging

Beneath the smiles and sunshine, many residents struggle to build durable, dependable relationships. In San Diego County:

  • Adults report loneliness at rates higher than the national average

  • More than one in four adults report lacking social and emotional support

  • A significant share of older adults live alone

San Diego has built strong institutions, vibrant organizations, and meaningful programs. What we have not yet created at scale is the shared civic infrastructure that helps people move from feeling welcomed to feeling rooted, from one-time participation to reliable relationships.

Like a tree, our region’s strength depends on connections that are intentionally tended. Branches grow quickly. Roots require stewardship.

Our Vision

As a Founding Chapter of the United States Chamber of Connection, we will help establish connection as essential civic infrastructure in our region.

Grounded in the Six Points of Connection and attentive to the realities of mobility and transition that influence this county, our work will shift connection from something left to chance to something intentionally supported, measured, and sustained.

We envision a coordinated, cross-sector effort that aligns leaders, strengthens neighborhoods, and makes it easier for residents to build dependable relationships across life stages.

Across San Diego County, there is goodwill and civic energy. This is not about launching another program. This chapter exists to build the connective tissue that enables more people to feel rooted in our region.

Community Builder Network

It’s time to support the people who make connection possible.

We will be hosting monthly pot luck dinners for community builders to share our journeys, collaborate and learn together.

Welcome Committee Volunteers

We are recruiting volunteers from every neighborhood in the region to help steward opportunities to reconnect neighbors and strengthen communities.
